Helms—Hornberger

Ashley S. Helms and Clint C. Hornberger of Baldwin City were united in marriage at a 5:30 p.m. service on July 11, 2009, at Worden United Methodist Church in Baldwin City.
A reception followed at the groom’s family farm, C-Ho Farms, outside of Baldwin City.
The bride is the daughter of Deanna L. Helms, Iola, and Richard J. and Becky Helms, Iola.
The groom is the son of Chip and Jan Hornberger, Baldwin City.
Special guests attending the wedding were the groom’s grandparents, Bob and Gloria Pringle of Baldwin City, and the bride’s grandmothers, Roberta McGie, Iola, and Yvonne Budd, Sun City, Ariz.
In a nod to their agricultural roots, the bride and groom performed a “soil ceremony” in place of the traditional lighting of a unity candle.
The couple are both graduates of Kansas State University. They now live on the Hornberger family farm where he works as owner/operator. She works as a Crop Service Specialist for Great American Insurance of Lawrence.
Emily Pargman, Overland Park, and Kara Rexwinkle, Topeka, served as maids of honor. Mindy Aronson, Iola, Megan Tegtmeier, Kingsley, Iowa, and Shanda Mattix, Colby, were bridesmaids.
Donnie Hornberger, Olathe, cousin of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Ted Jehle, Baldwin City, Orion Kinkaid, Lenexa, Caleb Mattix, Colby, and brother of the bride, Tripp Helms, Iola.
Soloist was Richard Helms, singing “I Loved Her First.”
Tripp Helms read the “Irish Wedding Blessing.”
The bride wore a strapless Maggie Sottera taffeta gown that featured a corsetted back. She wore the groom’s mother’s veil. A ring from her great-grandmother was entwined into her bouquet.
The groom’s mother made both the wedding cake and the groom’s cake. The groom’s cake was in the shape of a black Angus bull.
The couple honeymooned in Charleston, S.C.
