Adopt-A-Child helpers needed

There are still about 100 children who need to be “adopted” through Iola’s Adopt-A-Child campaign.
Through Adopt-A-Child — one of the area’s largest Christmas charity efforts — donors are given a list of a child’s needs, wants and clothing sizes.
Gifts may be purchased and taken to First Baptist Church in Iola through Dec. 10.
Cheryl Sparks, one of the program’s organizers, said several families in need contacted her after the Nov. 5 sign-up, increasing the total of kids needing gifts from 200 to about 250 overall.
About 150 children have been accounted for so far.
“We haven’t gotten as many phone calls from people wanting to adopt this year, but we think it’s because we started earlier,” Sparks said.
Families can purchase gifts for children in need by calling Deb Donnell at 228-1444, Barbie Daugharthy at 365-5061 or Sparks at 365-1789.
