Blood goal near

On Wednesday the Community Blood Center’s blood drive will be in Iola from noon to 6 p.m. at the North Community Building.
Iola is within 41 pints of qualifying for Community Star Club status, an elite award Community Blood Center presents to groups collecting at least 400 pints of blood in a calendar year..
“When individuals normally think of essential community services, they think about the fire and police departments,” said Dr. Jay Menitove, executive director and medical director with Community Blood Center. “However, because Community Blood Center is here to meet the needs of local patients, we would hope that individuals in your community would consider us to be just as essential.”
Donating blood is easy, painless and takes about an hour. Every pint donated can save two lives.
Blood donors must provide identification, be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Those donating blood should get a good night’s rest, drink plenty of fluids and eat well before donating.
