IFD boot block raises $1,564

Iola firefighters collected $1,564.35 Saturday morning as part of their annual boot block to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Firefighters greeted passing motorists at the intersection of Washington and Madison avenues with boots seeking donations for MDA.
“It was a cloudy day, and there wasn’t much traffic out, but it was still a pretty good turnout for us,” said Eric B’Hymer.
The boot block was part of a nationwide fund drive in support of the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon that generated more than $60 million.
Pizza Hut and Sonic Drive-In donated food for the firefighters while they sought donations. Citizens Bank stayed open late Saturday to count the money.
