Sheriff faces charges

David Waddell

Woodson County Sheriff David Waddell was charged this week with submitting false information and official misconduct related to his allegedly filing false expense claims.
The Kansas Attorney General’s Office announced the charges Wednesday.
The counts allege Waddell provided false information on vouchers and reimbursement forms for goods purchased for personal use. The counts also allege that Waddell, 38, requested reimbursement for food that should not have been paid for by the Woodson County Sheriff’s Department.
Waddell is scheduled to appear in Woodson County District Court at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 24.
Waddell did not return a phone call seeking comment. An employee at the sheriff’s department told the Register that Waddell remains on duty.
