Trunk or treats in store for area youngsters

Organizers have planned a number of “Trunk or Treat spooktaculars” to help children celebrate Halloween in a safe and festive manner this weekend.
The Allen County Young Professionals will host their Trunk or Treat celebration from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday on the east side of the courthouse square in Iola. Members of ACYP will decorate their vehicle trunks and tailgates and hand out candy to passing children.
The candy giveaway will be followed by a ghost hunt, in which youngsters scour the courthouse lawn for candied ghosts. Children 12 and younger are invited.
LaHarpe Days Committee will host Fright Night from 6 to 7:30 Friday at LaHarpe Elementary School. The event will feature a haunted maze and gymnasium filled with spooky sights. Also planned are a cake walk, treats, games and costume contest.
Members of the LaHarpe Pride Committee will be on hand to serve chili for a freewill donation, while others decorate their vehicles for a Trunk or Treat trail outside the school.
Grace Lutheran Church will hold its Trunk or Treat for children from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday in the church’s parking lot, 117 E. Miller Rd. Individuals wishing to open their trunks for children are welcome to join the fun. Contact pastor Bruce Kristalyn, 365-6468.
Humboldt has a Halloween Spook Parade from the ANW Special Education Cooperative to the downtown square at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Youngsters are encouraged to don Halloween costumes to each of the events.

IOLA’S three schools are getting into the Halloween act Friday morning. Jefferson Elementary School’s costume parade starts at 8:15 a.m. Lincoln Elementary School’s follows at 8:30. McKinley Elementary School’s is at 9:30.
