Tuba Christmas seeks musicians

Local musicians are invited to help ring in the holiday season with brass.
The Iola area Tuba Christmas will be at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Bowlus Fine Arts Center. Participants are asked to register at 4 o’clock and rehearse at 4:30 p.m. Registration costs $5; music books are available for $12. Ed Lammers, director of bands at Allen Community College, will conduct.
The Tuba Christmas concert is free and open to the public. Special guests will include Will Biggs and the Emporia State University quartet.
This is the 35th year tuba and euphonium players are gathering to stage the eponymous concerts. Concerts will be presented in more than 200 cities in the United States and in several foreign countries. Tuba Christmas was conceived by Harvey Phillips to honor tuba instructor William J. Bell, who was born Christmas Day, 1902.
