Bulldogs hand loss to Lancers

MADISON — Something had to give Friday night in a battle of unbeatens. The Eight-Man I, District 2 title probably awaits the winner.
Madison High’s Bulldogs scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to defeat Crest High’s Lancers 31-8. The Bulldogs held a 3-0 halftime lead and was up 9-0 going into the final period.
Crest dropped to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in district play. Madison improved to 7-0 and 3-0 in district play.
Down 21-0 with just under seven minutes to play in the game, Crest averted the shutout. Zach Stinnett caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Hammond. Hammond ran in the two-point conversion.
Hammond had 61 yards on six carries for the Lancers. Bryan Newton got 22 yards on 11 carries.
Hammond completed 5 of 10 passes for 52 yards and threw three interceptions. Newton caught three passes for 32 yards. Dexter Wiley had one catch for five yards and Stinnett had the touchdown catch.
Crest had 155 yards of total offense, 103 rushing and 52 passing. Madison rolled up 306 yards of offense, 168 on the ground and 138 through the air.
The Lancer defense was led by Hammond with 12 tackles and Stinnett with 11 tackles. Thomas Dietrich had seven tackles and a quarterback sack. Micah Smith and Dakota Ramsey had seven tackles each. Ramsey had an interception.
Crest travels to Le Roy next Friday for another district game against Southern Coffey County High’s Titans.
