Humboldt High’s Taylyn Wells (24) looks for an opening past Burlington High defender Autumn Kirchner (22) in the second half of Burlington’s 74-13 win. Wells scored 12 of the Lady Cubs’ 13 points.

HUMBOLDT — Visiting Burlington High raced to a 22-4 lead after the first quarter Friday and never looked back, thumping host Humboldt High 74-13.
The loss drops the Lady Cubs to 0-5 as they head into Christmas break.
Burlington extended its lead to 43-8 after three quarters and 64-10 after three.
The Lady Cubs, who sport no seniors and only one junior on its roster, was limited to single shots on most possessions, or turnovers against the taller, speedy Wildcat players.
“We talked at halftime about not hanging our heads and giving up,” Humboldt head coach Jeff Wilkerson said. “I thought the girls did a good job of staying into the game.
“As for the positives, Melissa (Davidson) did a good job of blocking out for the most part and Taylyn (Wells) was able to hit some threes for us.”
Wells drained three from downtown and scored 12 of Humboldt’s 13 points.
Burlington was led by Korinn Card with 16 points and Katlyn O’Connor and Madison Stewart with 11 points each.
Humboldt resumes play Jan. 5 at Caney Valley.
