Eagle girls win on final shot

OSWEGO — Tiffany Poyner’s putback of an offensive rebound with 3 seconds left on the clock gave Uniontown High’s girls a heart-stopping 55-54 win Tuesday over Oswego High.
The shot was only the second field goal of the night for the junior guard as Uniontown improved to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in Three Rivers League play.
“It was a game of runs; a very physical game,” Uniontown head coach Ken Holt said. “We are glad to get out with a win.”
Uniontown forged to a 15-9 lead after one quarter before Oswego knotted the proceedings at 30-30 at the break. The Eagles nudged in front 41-40 after three periods.
Jacy Ermel led the way for the victory with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Hayden Rathbun followed with 11 points.
Abbie Smith scored 10 points with four steals and three assists. Hope Jurgensen added three steals and three assists. Uniontown shot 41 percent, 23 of 56, from the field but hit only 7 of 24 free throws and committed 28 turnovers.
Oswego was led by Kali Kitterman with 17 points, Jessica Bates with 12 and Jaymie Nesbitt with 10.
Uniontown hosts Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan on Friday.
