Uniontown High’s Eagles season-long work paid off with the No. 1 seed in Saturday’s Kansas Class 2A Substate Volleyball Tournament. The tournament is hosted by Pittsburg St. Mary’s-Colgan High School.
The Eagles amassed a 30-8 record and No. 2 seeded Pittsburg-Colgan is 22-12.
Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats (6-27) are seeded No. 7 and play Colgan in the opening round at 2 p.m. Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs (5-25) are the No. 8 seed and play Uniontown at 2 p.m.
Colgan has two volleyball courts with play beginning at 2 p.m. The next matches on each court start 20 minutes following the conclusion of the first matches.
Admission prices are $5 for adults and $4 for students (K-12) for substate tournaments. The ticket is good for the whole day of action. No passes will be accepted.
The prices are set by the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
Jayhawk-Linn High (21-16) is the No. 4 seed and Sedan High (17-17) is seeded No. 5. The winner of this match plays the winner of the Uniontown-Humboldt match in the semifinals.
West Elk High (23-14) is seeded No. 3 and plays No. 6 seeded Oswego High (10-24). The winner takes on the winner of the Colgan-Marmaton Valley match in the semifinal.
Last year at Uniontown, Pittsburg-Colgan was the top seed and defeated Uniontown, the third seed, in the championship match. In 2007, Colgan defeated Humboldt at Humboldt in the title match and in 2006, Uniontown beat Colgan for the substate championship at Moran.
On the line is a berth in the Kansas Class 2A State Volleyball Tournament in Hays Oct. 30-31.
