GIRARD — Points are not coming easy for Iola High’s Fillies right now.
Fourth-ranked Girard High’s Lady Trojans outscored the Fillies 25-11 in the first half en route to a 57-36 win Thursday. It was a makeup of a non-league contest.
“It’s about finishing shots. We got good looks and the effort was there throughout the game,” said Becky Carlson, Fillies’ head coach.
“We did what we needed to do to win but hit our shots. They didn’t get easy shots off our turnovers and we played decent defense.”
Iola fell to 1-6 on the season. The Fillies take a 1-5 record into tonight’s Southeast Kansas League home game against Coffeyville (0-5).
The Fillies were led by Kelsey Larson with nine points and Jazmyne Honeycutt with eight points. Iola went 5 of 10 at the free-throw line.
Carly Twarog led Girard with 14 points followed by Morgan Boore with 13. Kylie Kunshek had 11 and Danica Kelly 10 points.
Iola won the junior varsity game 52-51. Lisa McFadden had 11 points and Kirstin McGuffin had 10 points.
Girard won the freshman game 36-23. Keli Lee scored nine and Alexa Fawson had eight points for Iola.
The Fillies learned Thursday they are seeded seventh in next week’s Burlington High Invitational. They play second-seeded Labette County (7-0) at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the BHS gym.
Win or lose Tuesday, the Fillies play at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
