IMS eighth-grade girls lose three in tourney

CHANUTE — Iola Middle School’s Ponies weren’t able to come away with a win Monday in the Royster Middle School volleyball tournament in Chanute.
The Iola eighth-grade team lost 25-11, 25-19 to Meadowview Middle School.
Rebecca Cunningham had one ace serve, one block and one kill. Halie Cleaver had two ace serves. Emma Sigg had one ace serve and one kill and Mackenzie Weseloh had one kill.
Independence beat Iola 25-12, 25-23. Alexis Hobbs served four aces for Iola and had one kill at the net. Cunningham had two kills and one assist. Weseloh had one kill and one set assist. Darci Collins had one ace serve and Cleaver had two set assists.
Royster defeated Iola 25-7, 25-5. Karlie Lower and Weseloh each had one kill for Iola.
“I was really impressed with the play of Emma Sigg. She was taking charge on the court and making some great passes,” said Terri Carlin, IMS eighth-grade head coach.
“Karlie and Darci came in off the bench and gave us a boost in play. We still need to work on being more consistent with our serving and getting our passes to our setters.”
The IMS eighth-grade and seventh-grade volleyball teams finish up the season today at Parsons.
