Iola Middle School’s girls struggled to get shots to fall in three games against visiting Parsons Middle School Thursday.
Parsons’ Lancers defeated Iola’s eighth-grade A-team 30-14. The Ponies were led by Emma Sigg and Alexis Hobbs with six points each. Hallie Cleaver added two points.
“We just didn’t come ready to play. Our second half was good but we dug ourselves a hole early on,” said Marty Taylor, IMS head coach. “Emma played well in the second half and Alexis hustled all night.”
The Pony seventh-grade A-team came up short, losing 31-24. Parsons led 18-10 at halftime.
“We missed a lot of shots but our effort was much better tonight,” Taylor said.
Haley Slater netted 13 points for the Ponies. Emma Piazza had four points. Scoring two apiece were Kyra Moore, Jo Lohman and Torrie Lewis. Emmalee Seabolt had one point.
Parsons won the seventh-grade B-team game 37-12. Iola was led by Danni Ware with six points, Courtney Smith with four and Darci Collins with two.
The IMS teams travel to Burlington for a tournament Saturday. They are at home against Burlington Monday.
On Saturday, the IMS seventh grade plays Burlington at 10 a.m. in the first round of its division. Iola’s eighth grade takes on Burlington at 11:20. Both games are in the Burlington Middle School gym. Prairie View and Chanute also are in the tournament.
