Indians rally past Wildcats in OT

MORAN — For the second time in as many nights, Marmaton Valley High’s boys found themselves on the short end of a heart-breaking loss.
This time, the Wildcats lost an 11-point lead entering the fourth quarter against visiting Oswego High.
The Indians ended regulation with an 15-4 run that sent the contest into overtime. Oswego limited the Wildcats to only two points in the extra frame of a 53-50 win.
The loss comes in the third and final round of Marmaton Valley’s preseason tournament. The Wildcats (2-2) went 1-2 in tournament play, good for third place. Oswego went undefeated in the tournament.
One night after falling to Humboldt in double overtime, the Wildcats looked to assume control in the second and third quarters against Oswego.
Marmaton Valley trailed 17-16 after one period before taking a 31-25 lead at intermission. The lead grew to 44-33 after three periods.
But Oswego came storming back to win down the stretch.
Dalton Houk and Zack Louk each scored 12 points to pace the Wildcats, while Tanner McNutt scored 10. Erthan Ericson pulled down 14 rebounds, while Houkd had three steals. Tanner Lewis, Houk, and Ericson each had four assists for Marmaton Valley.
Damon Trotnic scored 13 points and Hunter Cline scored 10 to pace Oswego.
The Wildcats will travel to Jayhawk-Linn Tuesday to wrap up the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule.
