Indians shoot past Eagle girls

UNIONTOWN — Visiting St. Paul High’s girls shot a blistering 80 percent in the first half and 56 percent from the game to pull away from Uniontown High, 72-52.
“I’m disappointed that we lost, but not in how we played,” Eagle head coach Ken Holt said. “St. Paul is a really good team and they showed why.”
St. Paul’s shooting touch included 55 percent (5 of 9) from three-point range and hitting 9 of 11 free throws.
Still, the game was not a runaway.
Uniontown fell behind 19-12 after one period and 37-27 at intermission.
A 19-13 St. Paul run spanning the third quarter put the game out of reach at 56-40.
Uniontown shot 45 percent from the game (21 of 47) and went 8 of 11 from the line.
Jacy Ermel led the way for the Eagles with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Abbie Smith chipped in with 14 points, five steals, three assists and two blocks.
St. Paul, which is ranked No. 5 in Class 1A, held a 32 to 25 rebounding advantage.
