Lady Cubs fall in tourney

NEODESHA — Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs took on strong competition at Saturday’s Neodesha High Invitational volleyball tournament. They were 0-6 at the event.
“This was a tough tournament with five very good teams. We never really got into a rhythm and had way too many unforced errors, especially serving,” said Stephanie Middleton, Humboldt head coach.
Fredonia beat Humboldt 25-16, 25-15, then Baxter Springs defeated Humboldt 25-11, 25-12. The Lady Cubs lost 25-12, 25-10 to Pittsburg and fell by 25-7, 25-21 to Neodesha.
Parsons defeated Humboldt 25-7, 25-12. Caney Valley beat Humboldt 26-24, 25-18.
For the day, Melissa Davidson delivered 18 kills at the net for the Lady Cubs. Brandi Malloy put down 16 kills. Hannah McCall had eight kills while Taylor Fitzmaurice and Lauren Ouderkirk each had six kills.
Taylyn Wells was credited with 50 set assists for the tournament.
