Lady Grizzlies squeeze past Red Devils again

EL DORADO — Almost to the identical score, Butler Community College’s Lady Grizzlies defeated Allen County Community College’s Red Devils or the second time this season.
On Monday on their home court, the Lady Grizzlies held on to win 71-67. Allen County hosted Butler on Nov. 16 and lost 72-69.
Jayhawk Conference-leading scorer Breanna Shaw, a 6-0 freshman, poured in 26 points for Allen County. Shaw now leads the conference with 232 points in 10 games.
Dysyan Malone, a 5-9 freshman, fired in 23 points as she push her season total to 163 points for ACCC. Malone stands at 11th in the conference in scoring.
Both Shaw and Malone controlled nine rebounds apiece for the Red Devils.
The Red Devils take a 6-4 overall mark into their Jayhawk Eastern Division opener Wednesday. Allen County travels to Overland Park to take on Johnson County Community College.
The Lady Cavaliers are 7-0 and ranked sixth in NJCAA Division II.
Allen County and Butler were knotted at 32-all at halftime. In a close contest, the Lady Grizzlies outscored the Red Devils 39-35 in the second half for the win.
Allen County shot 50 percent, 23 o 46, from the field. The Red Devils hit 17 of 24 free throw attempts.
Butler was 25 of 64, 39 percent, from the field and cashed in on 15 of 19 free throw tries.
The Lady Grizzlies hit 6 of 29 three-point field goal attempts to the Red Devils’ 4 of 9 from outside the arc.
Allen County even won the rebounding battle, 34 to 29.
Allen County’s only sophomore Jennifer House tossed in six points and freshman Aeriss McNeese had four points.
Scoring two points each were freshmen Maurissa Shaffer, Kynesha Nisbett and Jazmynn Johnson.
Abby Henning fired in 14 points for Butler. Jessica Eqwuagu and Abby Fawcett each had 12 and Tiera Andrews scored 10 points.
