Lady Raiders pressurize Wildcats

MORAN — Frontenac High’s Lady Raiders used a smothering full-court press in a 67-30 win over host Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats Tuesday.
The Lady Raiders scored 36 points in the first quarter and led 45-15 at halftime.
“We can’t get a first quarter going offensively or defensively. Frontenac’s pressure was full-court and we even had trouble just inbounding the ball,” said Kent Houk, Marmaton Valley head coach.
Houk said the Lady Raiders used 5-10 senior Emily Barto on the ball for inbound plays. “She had at least four steals by just jumping up to get the inbound pass. She scored on layups in the first quarter.”
Barto finished with 25 points to lead the Lady Raiders. Frontenac was 16 of 24 from the free-throw line.
Marmaton Valley was led by Maggie Meiwes with eight points. The Wildcats were 3 of 7 at the line.
Marmaton Valley (1-5) plays its Three Rivers League opener Friday at Colony against Crest High’s Lady Lancers.
Frontenac won the junior varsity game 60-20.
