Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans and Crest High’s Lady Lancers are in the same Kansas Class 1A Substate Volleyball Tournament Saturday. Eight teams were assigned to the Flinthills High substate coming out of regionals in southeast Kansas.
Class 1A substate sites have two four-team tournaments. Winners of each of those tournaments advance to the Kansas Class 1A State Volleyball Tournament in Hays, Oct. 30-31.
The Lady Titans (36-4) were not seeded No.1 but No. 2 overall. The No. 1 seed went to Central Christian of Hutchinson (37-2). Both teams earned top seeds of the two four-team tournaments.
Southern Coffey County is in substate B at Rosalia Saturday. Crest is also in the B bracket as the No 6 seed overall with a 22-12 record.
The Lady Titans play Elyria Christian (19-14) of McPherson. Crest plays Norwich (27-6) in the other semifinal. Winners play for the B bracket championship and a trip to state.
Flinthills has two volleyball courts with play beginning at 2 p.m. The next matches on each court start 20 minutes following the conclusion of the first matches.
Admission prices are $5 for adults and $4 for students (K-12) for substate tournaments. The ticket is good for the whole day of action. No passes will be accepted.
The prices are set by the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
A year ago, Southern Coffey County went into the substate as the No. 1 seed and lost to Central Christian in the championship match. This year the two teams are in opposite tournaments.
