Louk claims second at Jayhawk meet

MOUND CITY — Marmaton Valley High’s Zack Louk finished second in the boys’ varsity race at the rescheduled Jayhawk-Linn High Invitational cross country meet.
Louk ran the 5K distance in 16 minutes, 25 seconds Monday. Yates Center High’s Paul Stockebrand ran a new personal-best time of 18:11 to earn the 12th place medal.
Yates Center’s Dylan Sicka missed the meet because of illness. Cherokee Shaffer was unable to run in the girls’ varsity race because of academic commitments.
Marmaton Valley High’s Jamee McEndree placed 24th in the varsity girls’ race. Her time for the 4K race was 19:41.
Ryan Smith of Marmaton Valley was second in the boys’ junior varsity 5K race in 19:14. Teammate Carlos Gronzales was 19th in 21:23. Yates Center’s Sam Aguirre ran a personal-best 22:38 for 24th place.
Yates Center’s Chari Dyer took 13th in the junior varsity girls’ race in 21:46.
Yates Center’s Tanner Sheldon is still recovering from foot surgery. His status for the rest of the season will be determined this week.
Crest High’s cross country runners were also scheduled for the meet. It was known if the Lancer runners ran Monday after the meet was moved from last Thursday.
