and third in A-team division

UNIONTOWN — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s girls are wrapping up their 2009 basketball season in a tournament hosted by Uniontown this week.
Tuesday night the Wildcat B-team edged Pleasanton 19-18. The Wildcats hit 5 of 7 free throws in the fourth quarter to the Blu-Jays’ 2 of 10. The teams were tied 12-12 after three quarters.
With the win, the Wildcats (7-4) moved to the B-team championship game against Uniontown Thursday.
Sam Root fired in seven points and Mackenzie Tynon had six points. Tessa Olson scored three points.
“These girls worked hard throughout the game,” said Brenda Mills, MVJH head coach.
In the A-team division, Marmaton Valley lost 29-13 in a semifinal game to Uniontown. The Eagles led 17-9 at halftime and held the Wildcats scoreless in the third quarter.
“The girls struggled shooting or even getting a shot off during the game,” said Mills. “We were stuck on nine for 2 1/2 quarters. We just could get anything to fall.”
Marmaton Valley’s A-team, now 4-8, plays Westphalia Thursday for third place.
Kaitlin Ensminger scored five points to lead the Cats. Emily Meiwes and Cheyenne English each had three points. Ashtynn Louk added two points.
