No. 3 Lady Titans defeat Lady Wolves

LEBO — Southern Coffey County maintained its spotless record Tuesday, fending off a physical challenge from host Lebo High.
The Lady Titans’ 53-45 win sets up a doozie to wrap up their pre-Christmas schedule. Southern Coffey County, ranked third in class 1A, will host the top-ranked Class 2A squad, Olpe, on Friday night.
“We gave up too many offensive rebounds (against Lebo),” said Lady Titan head coach Jeff True. “We won’t be able to do that Friday against Olpe.”
In their contest Tuesday, Southern Coffey County took the early lead and maintained that advantage through the second half. The Lady Titans led 16-9 after one period and 27-22 at the break. The lead grew to six points, 40-34, after three quarters.
Southern Coffey County hit 6 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Samantha Jacob shot 9 for 12 from the field, including 3 of 5 from three-point range, to score a game-high 21 points for Southern Coffey County.
Shelby Birk meanwhile, scored 10 of her 14 points after the break, and Kaitlin Meyer scored eight points on 6-for-6 free throw shooting, to go with eight rebounds, three steals and three assists. Kristen Garland added seven rebounds.
Lauren Schlesener scored 14 points and Jessica Robertson 12 to pace Lebo.
“It was a very physical game,” True said. “To their credit, Lebo battled the entire game. They have a very good team. Olpe should be a great test for us.”
Southern Coffey County’s boys dropped a 53-49 decision to Lebo Tuesday. No report was made to the Register on the game.
