Pony girls play at Burlington

BURLINGTON — Iola Middle School’s eighth-grade and seventh-grade girl basketball teams finished fourth at Saturday’s tournament in Burlington.
The Pony eighth-grade team opened with a 30-8 loss to host Burlington Middle School. Alexis Hobbs scored four points for Iola.
Emma Sigg and Paige Miller each had two points.
In the third-place game, Prairie View decked Iola 35-13. Hobbs fired in eight points and Chay Hutton had five points.
Iola’s seventh-grade team lost 21-14 to Burlington. Haley Slater scored nine points to lead the Ponies. Lexie Long and Emmalee Seabolt each had two points.
Prairie View defeated Iola in the third-place game 28-14. Slater netted 10 points.
Kyra Moore and Seabolt each tossed in two points.
The IMS girls’ basketball season is winding down. The Ponies, both seventh and eighth grades, travel to Pittsburg Thursday.
Iola’s eighth-grade A-team plays in this coming Saturday’s Winter Classic hosted by Parsons. Chanute, Independence, Parsons, Columbus, Pittsburg and Coffeyville along with Iola play in the tourbament.
Iola’s teams finish the season Dec. 14 at Parsons.
